Year of the Rat Pop-Up Card

This is how Jean created her Year of the Rat (2020) pop-up card.

She started with an idea of a scholarly rat in a study surrounded by books, screen, chair and humorous rows of mice with a nearby cat. She then drew all images that she wanted to use in her design.

Jean then combined all the cut-out images and worked out all of the engineering details to create a three-dimensional pop-up card.

Once Jean was happy with her final design, she then went on to paint each of the elements of the pop-up card individually.

Jean then made copies of the original paintings so that she could cut them up and reassemble them.

Here’s Jean cutting out the various images for her Year of the Rat pop-up card and in her art studio, reassembling the card.

This is the final version of Jean’s Year of the Rat pop-up card for 2020. Cat for added humour dimension included.
